Ondansetron Injection is approved for patients aged 6 months and older. 1.2 Prevention of Postoperative Nausea and/or Vomiting Ondansetron Injection is indicated for the prevention of postoperative nausea and/or vomiting. As with other antiemetics, routine prophylaxis is not recommended for patients in whom there is little expectation that nausea and/or vomiting will occur postoperatively. In patients in whom nausea and/or vomiting must be avoided postoperatively, Ondansetron Injection is recommended even when the incidence of postoperative nausea and/or vomiting is low. For patients who do not receive prophylactic Ondansetron Injection and experience nausea and/or vomiting postoperatively, Ondansetron Injection may be given to prevent further episodes. Ondansetron Injection is approved for patients aged 1 month and older.

Little published information is available on the clinical use of ondansetron during breastfeeding, although it is apparently frequently used for nausea after cesarean section, usually in doses of 4 to 8 mg intravenously.[1][2] Use after cesarean section appears to not affect the onset of breastfeeding.[3] No adverse infant effects have been reported and the drug has been used in infants.[4] If ondansetron is required by the mother, it is not a reason to discontinue breastfeeding; however an alternate drug may be preferred, especially while nursing a newborn or preterm infant.
